In this review, we’ll be diving into the features, setup, and reasons why this safe stands out as a good value for the money.

Here are some key features of the RPNB 5-gun safe:

  1. Durable Construction: The RPNB Electronic 5-Gun Rifle Safe is built with solid 16-gauge steel construction, ensuring robustness and longevity. The heavy-duty steel walls, tamper-proof hinges, and a pry-resistant door provide enhanced protection against unauthorized access.
  2. Electronic Locking System: This rifle safe features an electronic lock with a digital keypad for quick and convenient access. The keypad allows for easy programming of unique passcodes, ensuring only authorized individuals can unlock the safe. Additionally, the electronic lock eliminates the need for keys, reducing the risk of misplacement or unauthorized duplication.
  3. Ample Storage Capacity: With a 5-gun capacity, the RPNB safe offers generous storage space for rifles, shotguns, or other firearms. The interior is designed to accommodate various barrel sizes with padded foam to prevent scratches and damage to the stored firearms.
  4. Security Enhancements: The safe is equipped with a pry-resistant door and a 5-point deadbolt locking system, providing an extra layer of security against forced entry attempts. It also has pre-drilled mounting holes, allowing for easy installation on the floor or wall, further enhancing its stability and resistance to theft.
  5. Silent Mode: The electronic lock offers a silent mode option, enabling discreet access to firearms without alerting potential intruders or causing unnecessary noise.

Unboxing Experience

The RPNB rifle safe comes in a large cardboard box with “RPNB” markings on the side.

RPNB Electronic 5-Gun Rifle Safe Review
The exterior semi-matte finish on the RPNB safe is well done, looks nice, and doesn’t attract fingerprints too badly.

We received our safe undamaged, despite some gashes on the outer box during shipment, thanks to the strategic use of styrofoam inside the box and thick plastic endcaps on all four corners of the box.

5 solid locking bolts and a thick steel exterior door plate make the RPNB a secure safe when bolted shut.

Everything you need to get this safe installed and bolted down in a closet or bedroom is included with your purchase. (This includes 2 backup barrel keys and 2 lockbox keys.)

The RPNB Electronic 5-Gun Rifle Safe comes with the following:

  1. The safe itself features durable steel construction and an electronic locking system.
  2. Pre-installed foam padding rack for organizing and protecting firearms.
  3. Mounting hardware, including screws and anchors, for secure installation.
  4. User manual and instructions for easy setup and operation.

First Impressions

Our first impressions of the RPNB rifle safe were very positive for the money spent.

The solid steel deadbolts are fairly beefy, though we’d like to see additional bolts on the top and bottom of the door for more security.

The fit and finish look to be excellent on the exterior with a very simple and minimal, no-frills, interior that includes a thin layer of carpeting to help protect your rifles from scratches.

Here’s an image of the frame of a Glock 21 next to the steel door to help demonstrate the thickness of the steel gauge being used on the RPNB safe door. The gauge of the safe is listed at “16 gauge” (we assume for the body) but the door appears to be closer to “14 gauge” in our measurements.

This is a fairly big safe that weighs roughly 80+ lbs empty. It’s a bit front-heavy due to its heavier steel door construction and will need to be bolted down to keep it stable.

We would have liked to have seen a few more tack welds, or a couple of longer welds securing the front panel to the door to help resist pry attacks better.

It has 4 holes on the bottom and 2 holes on the back for securely mounting this safe down to the flooring and back wall. The mounting bolts are included with this safe.

There are also a few pieces of carpeting with adhesive backing that you must apply to get full coverage inside the safe.

Setup and Programming

The RPNB 5-Gun Rifle Safe is very easy to set up and program.

Upon first receipt of the safe, or in the event of an electronic malfunction, or if you forgot the code, you always unlock it using the backup key (so don’t lose your keys!)

Here are the steps to begin the setup process:

  1. Remove the cover to gain access to the backup lock
  2. Insert the barrel key & turn it counterclockwise, at the same time turn the knob clockwise to release the door handle.
  3. Turn the door handle counterclockwise to retract the bolts & open the cabinet door

Installing The Batteries:

  1. Locate the battery compartment door on the back side of the safe door & open the battery cover by removing the security screw with the included Allen key.
  2. Insert 4 quality AA alkaline batteries in the correct orientation (not included) into the battery box. If the batteries are inserted correctly, the indicator light on the front panel will light up “Yellow” once followed by 1 “Beep”.
  3. Replace the battery cover & you are now ready to program the safe.

Note: First-time users should change the default code ASAP to prevent any unauthorized access to the safe.

Programming The Master Code:

  1. Enter the default code (1-5-9) on the keypad, then press a confirming button (“A/B”) & the Green light will light up with 2 beeps.
  2. Turn the knob clockwise & turn the door handle counterclockwise to retract the bolts so you can now open the door.
  3. With the safe open, press the “Program Button” (located midway on the back panel of the door near the door hinges) once & release it. The Yellow light will light up twice with 2 beeps.
  4. Enter a new Master Code of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 8 digits.
  5. Press the “Confirming Button” (“A/B”) once & release it. The Yellow light will light up twice with 2 beeps. This tone confirms that the password has been reset.
  6. Now test the code.
  7. If you made a mistake & the new code doesn’t work (the Yellow light will light up with 3 beeps if the incorrect entry is made) simply start over from Step 2.

Master Code Programming Notes:

  • After initial setup, enter your password followed by A or B to confirm. The green light will light up.
  • For your security, the Yellow light will light up with beeps if 3 incorrect entries are made & the safe will timeout & sleep for 30 seconds
  • The safe will timeout & sleep again for another 5 minutes if 3 more incorrect entries are made. The safe can still be opened by using the backup keys.
  • Programming a new code will overwrite your previous code.
  • You need to reset your password every time you change the batteries since there is no built-in memory.

Low Battery Warning:

Under normal conditions, if the red light lights up, it means the voltage is low and you should replace it with new batteries ASAP.

Silent Mode:

To silence the audible sound of the electronics, press “0-0-A”. To unmute the keys, press “6-6-A”

Storage Capacity

As shown in greater detail in the quick video review we did, this RPNB safe can store up to 5 rifles or long guns with magazines and accessories attached.

The ammo lockbox is nice to have in a taller safe with extra vertical space left over & comes with a set of small keys.

The “Ammo” lockbox inside the safe can be used to store ammo, a few stacked handguns, or even additional magazines.

You can use it to store whatever you like, though it is fairly space-limited.

Here, you can see there’s ample room to store a full-size Glock 21 as well as a few boxes of ammo or spare magazines.

We managed to fit 2 AR-15s and 3 AK-47 rifles with accessories and magazines attached, though some accessories may require you to angle the rifles to gain enough clearance to close the thick door.

Here’s a screenshot from our video review showing an assortment of AKs & ARs side by side.

*Notice that in the picture above, you may need to angle rifles slightly (depending on the accessories attached) so the door has enough clearance to shut.

This safe is spacious enough to fit most rifle setups and gives you just enough clearance to retrieve your rifles quickly when the need arises.

In this picture, you can see a 39″ Savage security shotgun with an 18″ barrel and still plenty of height to spare. This safe would also be great for storing longer hunting rifles with a 49″ maximum overall length.

The pre-installed foam rack has several shapes cut into it that help it accommodate different barrel thicknesses and shapes while holding them firmly in place to keep them secure.
